Task 1 - Aspects of Teen Horror
For our first task we had to research 5 opening sequences from films and analyse the conventions and techniques which the directors use to make the audience want to watch on. In the choosing of my 5 films, I decided to have a variety, ranging from different years, to different Horrors (Armageddon, Demonic and Psycho). The 5 I picked were: Zombieland, Paranormal Activity 2, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Signs and Ghost Ship. I believe these are complete mix of films as some of them targeted the much young teens whereas some targeted young adults, moreover they still contained similar ideas and techniques which worked well. Here is my analysis of each of the films:
Media - Task 1 - Ghost Ship on Prezi
To summarise, I feel I have gathered lots of different varieties of techniques and conventions, which i can twist, adapt and explore to create an effective opening sequence in our production, especially for a Demonic Horror. The main conventions I came across were the lighting effects which reflected the mood or situations that was within the Mise en Scene, Symbolism to warn and suggest meanings, the final girl rule and changing it, using and twisting the rules in horrors, different shots and camera effects to add realism, Flashbacks and creating an high and low equilibrium to keep your audience interested. All of these ideas will be taken back my my group so we can discuss and collaborate which ideas would suit our film and story most. Using Prezi to present my results, although it was slow to start off, I was able to quicken my process of using it as I attempted various ways to present my findings on Prezi. It was also very useful and effective as it is easy to use as well as you finish with an organised well presented presentation. I will continue to use Prezi in my work when I am able to.
